seen as a spatial context integrated into the time dimension. The “interactional-field” goes a step further, considering the relationship between multiple time and space at the same time, which is the real situation in social interaction [ 10 ]. Giddens
When people use a proverb or a proverb-like saying, it mostly represents an action to change the atmosphere of the situation going on. A social-psychological approach gives an apparatus to interpret different functions of proverbial speech and its relations to the use of humour in general. The article is based on the author’s study of functions of proverbial speech in social interaction. Proverbs are considered as a special kind of social strategy. Among the categories of the functions of proverbial speech listed in the Appendix, priority is given to those strategies in which a humoristic solution is most often preferred to serious social strategies. An obvious category in which proverbs are used humorously is ‘turning the situation into a joke’. In potentially conflicting situations such as negotiations it is important that both parties have an opportunity to joke about the situation. The liberating effect of humour, when somebody is using a proverb in a proper situation, is often an outlet for an individual’s own inner emotional tension. Something of the socially unburdening function of proverbs has also been recorded for proverb texts themselves. One can find lots of exaggerating expressions and humorous incongruity in the imagery of proverbs.

The social brain hypothesis offers an explanation for why primates should (a) have larger brains than other species and (b) differ so strikingly in terms of their cognitive abilities. In this chapter, I outline the social brain hypothesis and some of the evidence that has been adduced to support it, and then explore the extent to which possible cognitive constraints arising from brain volume might limit human social behaviour. I explore two particular aspects of human behaviour: the dynamics of conversation groups and social network size. Two conclusions are suggested by studies that we have undertaken. One is that there is a relationship between an individual's ability to cope with the extended layers of intentional tasks and the size of their social network. The other is that the hierarchical structure of our social networks, consisting of a series of expanding circles containing progressively more individuals, is a function of both the emotional intensity of relationships and the frequency of interaction.
Abstract
The question of knowledge construction can be regarded as a question of cognition in relation to action.Callon and al. have suggested interactive processes mixing both cognitive and social aspects of knowledge or technology. Both actors and interactions can usually be described by texts, and namely, by words. Thus knowledge development can be described through key-words network development. The authors have made simulations for knowledge development according to a local positive feed-back rule within small sets of word associations. In comparison with real data, the simulation results are fairly good. This approach leads to a general and very simple interaction model describing knowledge development. In this model, as opposed to usual cybernetics, actors constantly change, building a common scenario in relation to a mutual definition rule.
