A szkizofrénia klasszikus idegfejlődési elmélete a genetikai sérülékenységre, a korai környezeti hatásokra (például szülészeti komplikációk) és a pszichoszociális stressz ezekkel mutatott kölcsönhatására helyezi a hangsúlyt.
