Áttekintő cikkemben a fenyegető ingerek által kiváltott figyelmi torzítások hosszabb távú figyelmi feldolgozásra gyakorolt hatását vizsgálom. Elsőként sorra veszem a fenyegető ingerek következtében fellépő figyelmi torzításokat, s kitérek ezek lehetséges idegrendszeri hátterére. Ezt követően körüljárom a torzítások adaptivitásának lehetőségeit evolúciós pszichológiai elméleti keretben. Tárgyalom ezen torzítások lehetséges hatásait az inger megjelenése utáni információfeldolgozásra, hangsúlyt fektetve a fenyegető ingerek hosszú távú figyelmet facilitáló mechanizmusaira. Végül kitérek az észlelő személyéhez köthető olyan faktorokra az ingerfeldolgozás során, melyek gyakran merülnek fel a fenyegető ingerekkel végzett kutatások során. Bemutatom a szorongás és specifikus fóbiák hatásait, valamint hogy az idősek körében végzett vizsgálatok miként segíthetnek megválaszolni még függőben lévő, a fenyegető ingerek hatásaira vonatkozó kérdéseket. Az áttekintett kutatások eredményei alapján az körvonalazódik, hogy a figyelmi torzító folyamatok nem kizárók egymásra nézve, s a fenyegető ingereknek jelentős, többnyire facilitáló hatása van az ingert követő kognitív feldolgozásra. A kutatási terület fontosságát hangsúlyozza, hogy az eredmények nagyban hozzájárulhatnak a szorongásos zavarok terápiás hatékonyságának növeléséhez.

In the present review I focus on the effects of attentional biases for threat to later attentional processing. First, I introduce the three attentional biases for threatening stimuli, also touching on their neurological backgrounds. Then, I examine the adaptive potential of these biases from an evolutionary perspective. I discuss the possible effects of the attentional biases on information processing after the stimulus presentation, emphasizing the facilitating mechanisms of threatening stimuli on later attentional processing. Finally, I show three factors of the perceiver that often recur in studies dealing with threatening stimuli: The effects of anxiety and specific phobias, and how aging related experiments can further the understanding and help answer the questions regarding the effects of threat. Based on the results of the reviewed studies I suggest that attentional biases for threat are not exclusive to each other. Further, that threatening stimuli have a crucial, mostly facilitating, effect on the cognitive processing following stimuli presentation. The fact that these results could greatly add to the improvement of therapeutic effectivenss of anxiety disorders underscores the importance of future research.
