The chromatographic properties of rosmarinic and valerenic acids have been studied on an amino stationary phase with eight binary mobile phases (methanol-water, ethanol-water, propanol-water, acetonitrile-water, acetonitrile-methanol, THF-water, acetonitrile-buffer, and methanol-buffer) in which the concentration of organic modifier was varied from 0 to 100% ( v/v ). The retention of the compounds and the impact on their chromatographic behavior of the solvents used as mobile phases are discussed. The dependence of the RF of valerenic and rosmarinic acids on buffer solution pH was also investigated.
