Zootaxonomy – which identifies, describes, and names animal species – and animal ecology – which investigates the interactions between animals and their environment – are among the oldest and most fundamental branches of biology. The journal Acta Zoologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae has been an international forum for papers publishing in these topics since its foundation in 1954 by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Its 69 volumes were published by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, lately with the support of the Hungarian Natural History Museum. From January 2024, starting with volume 70, the journal is going to be published by Akadémiai Kiadó (AKJournals.com).
At the time of its foundation, Acta Zoologica was publishing in four languages: English, French, German, and Russian. Since then a lot has changed in the world of scientific publishing. Most importantly, English has become the almost exclusive language of international publications. Accordingly, countless “Actas” have recently been renamed to have more modern, more concise, and more comprehensible English titles. To follow this trend, as well as to describe more precisely on what scientific areas our journal focuses, we decided to rename Acta Zoologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae to Animal Taxonomy and Ecology.
We are positive that the new publisher will add to the quality of the journal and we truly hope that the change in the title will be well-received by the international community of zootaxonomists and animal ecologists.
