Absztrakt:

1958-ban iskolareform kezdődött a Szovjetunióban, ami nemcsak a keleti blokkot befolyásolta, hanem az USA pedagógiai diskurzusait is. A Szputnyik-sokk után fontossá vált megérteni a szovjet technikai fölény okait – az űrverseny mellett az oktatási versenyben is a jobb pozíciók szerzéséért folyt a harc. Az amerikai kormányzat nyilvános dokumentumai tartalmazzák a reformra tett reakciót, ami tanulmányom fő témája. Az első, Szovjetunióba tett hivatalos amerikai látogatások és az erről tett jelentések 1958–1959-ből származnak, ez jelenti a kiindulópontot.
