A tanulmány bemutatja a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia másodikként létrehozott területi bizottságát, a Pécsi Akadémiai Bizottságot (PAB), annak alapításától (1969. január 28.) mai működéséig. Kitér a szervezeti formálódás periódusaira, fizikai környezetének változásaira és a tartalmi munkára. Kiemeli a PAB regionális sajátosságait, az MTA Veszprémi Területi Bizottságával való szoros együttműködését, illetve a határon túli magyar tudományossággal való kapcsolatot. A rendezvények közül még a legfontosabbak bemutatására sem nyílik lehetőség, az összképet csak egy-egy táblázat segítségével villantjuk fel. A tanulmány egy-egy olyan eseményre fókuszál, amely az MTA egészéhez való kapcsolódást fémjelzi. Ilyen például a Magyar Tudomány Ünnepe országos nyitórendezvénye 2010-ben, amikor Pécs Európa egyik kulturális fővárosa volt, és a 2017-es rendezvény, amikor a Pécsi Tudományegyetem a középkori egyetemalapítás 650. évfordulóját ünnepelte.

The study gives a historical overview of the Regional Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Pécs (PAB), which was the second among the regional committees of this kind, from its foundation on 28 January 1969 to the present. It addresses the periods of the development of its organizational structure, the changes in its physical environment, as well as the content of the institution’s work. The study pays special attention to the regional peculiarities of the institution, its close cooperation with the Regional Committee in Veszprém (VEAB), and its relations with Hungarian scientific institutions abroad. Space does not permit even the presentation of the most important events, so diagrams will help to create an overall picture. The study concentrates on those emblematic events that shed light on the relations between the PAB and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and show them in all their complexity. To give just two examples, the inauguration of the Hungarian Science Festival in 2010, when Pécs was one of the cultural capitals of Europe, should be mentioned as such an event, as well as the celebration of the 650th anniversary of the foundation of the University of Pécs in 2017.
