Mind a diabetes mellitus, mind a pajzsmirigy-rendellenességek a gyakori betegségek közé tartoznak. A cukorbetegek között a pajzsmirigy-rendellenességek két-háromszor gyakrabban fordulnak elő a nem cukorbeteg populációhoz képest. A legfontosabb befolyásoló tényezők az életkor, a női nem és az autoimmun eredetű diabetes mellitus. Tanulmányok szerint a cukorbetegek pajzsmirigy-rendellenességei csak az esetek felében kerülnek időben felismerésre. A közlemény röviden összefoglalja az autoimmun diabetes és thyreoiditis összefüggését, az 1-es típusú cukorbeteg terheseket érintő pajzsmirigy-működési rendellenességek kockázatát. Az összefoglaló érinti a túlsúlyosság és a pajzsmirigyrák összefüggését, valamint a 2-es típusú cukorbetegség kezelésére törzskönyvezett glükagonszerű peptid-1-analóg hatását a pajzsmirigy C-sejtjeire.
