Napjainkban a hüvelyi ultrahangvizsgálat a nőgyógyászati rutinvizsgálatok szerves részét képezi. Szinte nincs olyan nőgyógyászati kórkép, amelynek diagnosztikájában ez a vizsgálóeljárás ne jelentene segítséget. A petefészek- és méhtestrák felismerésében is igen fontos a szerepe, sok esetben már önmagában ezzel a vizsgálattal valószínűsíthető a diagnózis.
