Bevezetés: A szociológiai vizsgálatok alapvető célja a társadalmi jellegű problémák feltárása, amely az orvosokkal, orvostanhallgatókkal kapcsolatos vizsgálatokban is erőteljesen megnyilvánul. Ugyanakkor a megjelenő tanulmányoknak a tényfeltárás mellett szemléletformáló hatása is van. Célkitűzés: Egy lehetséges kutatási szemléletváltás megfogalmazása, a továbblépés lehetőségeinek feltárása, elsősorban az orvosok egészségi állapota, az orvosnői szerepkonfliktus és az orvostanhallgatói pályaszocializációra irányuló vizsgálatok témakörében. Módszer: A gyógyító hivatásúakkal kapcsolatos tanulmányok másodelemzése. Eredmények: A megjelent közlemények szinte mindegyike közvetíti az orvoslét konfliktusainak valamilyen aspektusát, azonban nem fektetnek kellő hangsúlyt az eredményes, sikeres hallgatókra és orvosokra, a támogató tényezőkre, az erőforrásokra és a konfliktuskezelési módokra. Következtetés: A tanulmányoknak a jövőben – a kockázati tényezők kimutatása mellett – a protektív tényezők hangsúlyozásával az orvosi identitást is jobban kell erősíteniük, fel kell hívniuk a figyelmet a létező pozitív példákra, a problémák elkerülhetőségére és a sikeres orvosi életutakra.
