A telemedicina alkalmazása világszerte feltörekvő irányzat. Népszerűsége vitathatatlan Észak-Amerikában, Ausztráliában, Dél-Afrikában és a skandináv országokban. Hazai elterjedése a különféle próbálkozások ellenére nem ért el átütő sikert – ez a korábbi elutasító kormányzati megnyilvánulásoknak is köszönhető. Jelen tanulmány etikai, jogi és finanszírozási szempontokból vizsgálja a telemedicinát, mind az orvos, mind a beteg nézőpontjából. Az elvégzett elemzések alapján az alkalmazás mellett és ellen szóló érvek ütköztetése után megállapítható, hogy a hazai üzemeltetésben szerzett gyakorlati tapasztalat alapján lehet csak objektív következtetésekre jutni abban, hol és hogyan érdemes alkalmazni.
