Linear sight analysis is a relatively new method to represent and evaluate interior townscapes along a route. It has been conducted recently by video techniques, but a concise theory and adequate methodology is lacking to cover the complexity of the built environment including people living in it, the natural and cultural background, the spirit of the place and the role of the observer being part of the scene. This research reviews the perspectives of the new concept of urban landscape and recent theoretical approaches including the new science called Promenadology or Strollology that the German call Spaziergangswissenschaft. This paper attempts to demonstrate some research directions and theoretical frameworks as integral parts of the new research field, whilst also indicating its practical outcomes.
