Adensitometric HPTLC method has been established for analysis in alcohol extracts of the seeds and leaves of Achyranthes aspera L. The extracts were separated on aluminum foil-backed silica gel 60 F 254 plates. Detection was by measurement of absorbance at 490 nm, in absorbance/reflectance mode, after derivatization with 10% H 2 SO 4 in 95.5% ( v/v ) ethanol. The RF of oleanolic acid was 0.22. The oleanolic acid content of both extracts was compared statistically and the amount in the seed extract found to be higher (0.970%) than that in the leaf extract (0.666%).
