The article discusses the effects of the global economic recession - since 2008 — on the Hungarian building construction, thereby affecting the architectural design activity, primarily from the perspective of the change in design view. The recession, which points beyond its economical aspect, emphasizes a vastly complex approach, which makes the handling of the accumulated social and environmental problems inevitable. The designers have to show solidarity towards the constructed and natural environment, and first of all people. The article reveals the current activities and results of the Research Group of Solidary Architecture founded recently at Pollack Mihály Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, University of Pécs.
